Our mission is to empower students to thrive. Founded in 2005 in Birmingham by two brothers, James and Michael Eder, who saw an opportunity to help students save money whilst enjoying their favourite brands. Today, we have 100% market coverage, connecting over 1000 of the worlds biggest brand partners, with over 175 million verified students, across 100 countries and counting. At Student Beans, our vision is for students around the world to use our product as a first port of call to make decisions and purchases.

At Student Beans, our Product and Engineering teams are at the heart of our business, connecting our users to the world’s biggest brands.

Our Engineering team is the powerhouse that turns our ideas and visions into tangible, real results that wow! So whether you’re a Ruby wizz, a Javascript pro, or an AWS master, our engineering team is a safe space to push your technical knowledge and to try new things. 

Working in tandem with our Engineering team is our Product vertical; the glue that binds our cross functional teams here at Student Beans, working with our designers and development engineering team to deliver a world class product, which empowers students to thrive. Our Product Managers are skilled in internal and external stakeholder management, and masters of using data to drive change and implement strategy across our teams, which will enhance the user experience and ensure we remain user centric as we grow.

As a business, Student Beans is one of the UK’s fastest growing technology companies, as named by The Sunday Times Tech Track 2019 and 2020. We are now a team of over 300 employees (with over 90 in Product and Engineering)– but we’re not stopping there.

How we work

Here at Student Beans, we have everything in house including Front-end, Back-end, Platform, QA, testing and data, giving us the capacity to work in highly compatible cross-functional teams in an Agile environment. So, what does this mean? Essentially we break up our Engineering and Product departments into smaller teams, giving them the autonomy to work in whatever way allows them to deliver the best results for our users. We don’t believe in micromanaging, or office politics, and we empower our employees to voice their opinions and make decisions. Agile allows us to work smarter, not harder.

We look for individuals who will uphold the values of our business, who aren’t adverse to suggesting new ideas, trialling and testing outside the box thinking, and unafraid to challenge the status quo. We look for individuals who value collaboration and teamwork, and aren’t scared to roll their sleeves up and get stuck in.

Within both our Product and Engineering teams, we have progression plans at every level, including at Junior, Mid, Senior, Lead Engineer, Product Owner, Product Manager, Senior Product Manager, or Head of Product. We also have a remote-first working culture, meaning you are not obligated to come into the office. Instead, you can choose the environment you excel in. Development and progression

At Student Beans there is no glass ceiling. Our engineers drive their own progression and there are many opportunities to advance your career. Within the engineering team we run a mentorship programme, where our experienced mentors are able to support the careers of our graduate and apprentice engineers.

We know how important your work/life balance is. Flexi-time allows you to build your working day to suit your lifestyle. Our engineers work core hours of 12pm – 4pm.If you’re not a fan of early starts, treat yourself to a lie in! Got evening plans? Start earlier and finish at 4:30pm and you’ve got the rest of your day to yourself.

As a remote first business, you also get the flexibility to work from home or anywhere you feel comfortable. However, we understand that you might need a change of scenery or the in-person support of your colleagues – so employees have access to our offices too.
