Meet Josie: Student Beans' Business Development Manager, APAC
In the latest of our Meet the Team series, we chat to Josie. After starting out as an Account Manager in our London office, she will be relocating to our new office in Melbourne this summer as our Business Development Manager for the APAC region. Here’s what she had to say about her Student Beans journey and the exciting times ahead...
Can you tell us a bit about your story so far at Student Beans?
I started at Student Beans in April 2017, and joined the team as an Account Manager. My time has consisted of managing key brands across a variety of sectors, onboarding them once they’ve signed on to partner with us, and ensuring their set-up process runs as smoothly as possible. Along with my onboarding responsibilities, my focus has been to grow existing relationships and accounts by running strong campaigns, and opening up new opportunities as well as expanding internationally with our top performing brands, across the 52 countries we operate in.
My role differs every day, which I love. One day I could be taking a fashion brand through the online set-up process, and the next day I could be running a powerful marketing campaign for a big global tech brand, and watching how well they perform.
And you’re now moving into a new role as Business Development Manager, APAC, in our new Melbourne office...
My new role is an exciting one, purely because I believe in things falling into place for a reason. I’ve been in the UK for almost 2 years after moving here from Australia, and I love that I’ve now stepped into a different role at Student Beans, to help broaden my skills and experience, and grow both personally and as part of a great team. And I can’t forget the fact that I get to do all of that in my hometown, and most liveable city in the world - Melbourne!
My role as BDM, APAC will focus around growing our client base, exploring new opportunities, reaching out to key potential partners, networking with fantastic local brands/APAC brands, and growing Student Beans APAC to the same level of success as the UK and the US.
What are you most excited about when you move to the new office in Melbourne?
1. Seeing my family, friends and dog
2. The BEST coffee in the world
3. Meeting all of our clients who are based in Aus!
4. Avocado on everything
What has been your proudest achievement in your work at Student Beans so far?
My proudest achievement has to be working with a fantastic Account Management team, of hard working, caring, supportive people. We all learn from one another each day, which is important to me in any work environment.
My second would have to be having the opportunity to bring Student Beans back home with me, and seeing how the business holds trust in me and the APAC team to build the business there, and work together to achieve amazing things.
What do you think sets Student Beans apart from other companies in the sector?
Our culture and our flexibility stands out to me the most, and are both big reasons why I joined the company. We are an understanding, laid back bunch, and with that, we also hold strong company values as a team and individually.
What’s the no.1 thing that makes you stay at Student Beans?
Career Management and open opportunities to individuals who want to really make it happen for themselves. If you continue to communicate your personal goals to the business, senior management take your thoughts on board, and work with you towards career progression. If you believe in the company values, work hard, and are open to growing with the business, then I think anything is possible.
